Ashanti Priestess Mask
This mask was made from Osese wood and Brass by Native Ghanaian artist Sam T.
What do we think?-This is a particularly interesting mask due to the symbolism. The Gye Nyame symbol on the priestess’ head shows us that God is her primary thought and serving God is her chosen purpose. The giraffes depicted on the priestess’ chest show us that to her the physical world isn’t as important as the spiritual.
